Bitterne London & South Western Railway

The station was opened in the 1860's as Bitterne Road railway station. The station itself is located a mile west of Bitterne village, although original plans for railway line would have seen the railway pass right through the centre of the village . The Map below is an OS plan dated 1940's

Leading Railman Allen Futcher was the last staff appointed to Bitterne and was transfered to the new Southwest Trains Hedge End Station that was opened between Botley & Eastleigh to serve the growing population of Hedge End

The station building and waiting room is now boarded up along with the platform access Gents Toilet and lamp room. The Parcel Shed platform access is fenced off and is now rented along with the station house to the company Drain Doctor. This company have now moved out and the Station Masters House remains empty.

The station is now being restored to its former glory. This is by the Friends of Bitterne Railway Station Click Here For More Information FRIENDS OF BITTERNE STATION
